Olympia and Wolf Haven
Okay, so another day, another place to visit! We
arrived in Olympia on Tuesday afternoon, May 10. It was
a pretty nice day (translation: not raining) and we parked here at
Olympia Campground for a week. No plans especially but just
going to do whatever is here to do! Next morning, we woke up
to rain - lots of it! A day not even a dog would go out in!
So not much was done, other than a visit to the Visitors Info Center
with lots of brochures brought home. Mom and Dad did go visit
the State Capitol though, and it was quite beautiful!

Wolf Haven
Great spot with great people who are very involved with conservation and preservation of the wolves. They also are federally licensed as a place for 2 endangered species of wolves, the Red Wolf and the Mexican Gray Wolf. Besides the wolves, they had some coyotes. All very interesting! Pictures were very hard to get as all wolves were behind chain link fence but here are a couple of the better ones. The wolves were all losing their winter coats so their fur looked kind of raggedy, but they were still very beautiful! Some were VERY standoffish, and a couple of others, Mom thinks she could have crawled in the enclosure with! Silly Mom -- she'd have probably been wolf lunch!
On their way to the Wolf place, they drove around a little lake and found this funny looking guy living in someone's pasture -- Mom thinks maybe it is a yak?
- Olympia
So Friday was sunny. YAY - 2 days of sun in a row - be still my little heart! So off go Mom and Dad to downtown Olympia to do a little window shopping and a little sightseeing. They took a walk on the boardwalk which had some interesting sculptures, enjoyed the Heritage Fountain, and looked at all the beautiful boats moored there.
- Farmers Market
Olympia has a lovely Farmers Market which is partially indoors and partially outdoors, open Thursday through Sunday. There are wonderful fresh fruits and vegies, interesting foods to eat, fresh seafood and meats, and special crafts. I'm sure with all of that there were some cat delights there, like fresh catnip thingys, but Mom did NOT bring any home. I shall have to have a word with her so that does not happen again! Dad and Mom especially enjoyed a nice little jazz group that kept the day especially mellow.
